“Then Laura gathered up all the paper wrappings, and she helped Ma set on the table the big platter of golden fried mush, a plate of hot biscuits, a dish of fried potatoes, a bowl of codfish gravy and a glass dish full of dried-apple sauce.

…and nothing could taste better than hot biscuits and applesauce.”

After reading the pilot script of “Little House on the Prairie” in the early 1970s, Michael Landon fell absolutely in love with the story. He was so taken by the characters that he not only wanted to direct the series but also play the role of Charles Ingalls. Today, he continues to be remembered by many as Pa. Michael Landon would have celebrated his 84th birthday on October 31st. Read more about his incredible career.

Linwood Boomer played Mary Ingalls' love interest (and eventual husband) in the series, but did you know that he's also the voice behind Malcom in the nineties TV show Malcolm in the Middle? On October 9th, we're wishing a very happy birthday to Linwood. To learn more about his life after the show, check out this post

Our Recommended Reading articles have been popular resources for readers interested in learning more about Laura Ingalls Wilder’s world.

This month, we are spotlighting the book, The Wilder Life: My Adventures in the Lost World of Little House on the Prairie. Author Wendy McClure traces the pioneer journey of the Ingalls family— looking for the Big Woods among the medium trees in Wisconsin, wading in Plum Creek, and enduring a prairie hailstorm in South Dakota. She immerses herself in all things Little House—exploring the story from fact to fiction, and from the TV shows to the annual summer pageants in Laura’s hometowns. The result is an incredibly funny first-person story about what happens when we reconnect with our childhood touchstones—and find that our old love has only deepened. Get your copy here.
